AQUARIUS

The horizon has changed so much you have to reevaluate everything. You feel clearer about who you are inwardly and it’s time to bring all of that to the surface. As this happens more than one adjustment will have to be made and people will either go along with it or they won’t. Don’t be timid about the way you approach your next move and whatever you do, don’t hang around waiting for others to back you up. Too much hangs on your ability to act decisively, even in the face of people who will do their best to convince you that you’re taking the wrong tack.

Sometimes it’s really nice to read your horoscope and have it back up and reaffirm exactly what you have been thinking and feeling. 2 months ago I had no idea what was happening in my life. I was working a job I hated, was hopelessly depressed, putting on weight, heartbroken and bored.

But in those 2 short months everything has started falling into place. I may be unemployed and single but I am happy for the first time in my life. I’ve found a “career” that I want to pursue and I am counting down the days until my horticulture course starts. Me and my ex have become better friends (and lovers) since we split up. I have started eating much more healthily and mostly vegan. And I have discovered knitting. I don’t know what it is about it, but I find it so calming. I think it’s been the thing other last few months that has really pulled me together, the long hours knitting has really helped me think things through.

Books I have read in January

The Secret History - Donna Tartt

1984 - George Orwell

No Logo - Naomi Klein

The Marriage Plot - Jefferey Eugenides

I’ve realised that reading gives me the same feeling as taking codeine. That’s a good thing.

Today we went to the sea. The North Norfolk coast is lovely. It was so quiet. We drove past Stephen Fry’s house to!

I just finished reading No Logo and now I’m having a bit of a crisis. I really really like clothes. But I just feel so guilty all the time. I know I am in a privileged enough position to make a choice about what I wear and where I buy it from. But that’s where I get stuck.

I don’t want to buy from companies that use sweatshops or use cotton from farms with questionable ethics. I don’t want to wear artificial fabrics that rely heavily on oil. That leaves wool - but is that vegan friendly?

I could thrift, but I live in the middle of the countryside and there just isn’t anywhere to buy from. I’ve been looking at ethical clothing stores but the type of clothes they sell make me sad.

What’s a girl to do?

Weird survey cos I’m bored.

1: Apart from tumblr, what do you like to do in your spare time?
Read a lot of fiction, listen to music, attempt to draw, sew, ride my bike, daydream, paper cutting, cook and eat, watch star trek, masturbate, trim my fringe, arrange my collection of notebooks, cut pictures out of magazines.

2: Name a favorite of each: food, drink, color.
Pizza/ice cream, peach smoothies, grey.

3: Name a favorite of each: book, movie, tv show.
The Woman Destroyed (Simone de Beauvoir), Ghost World, Marion and Geoff

4: If you were given the opportunity to spend 48 hours with absolutely anyone (living or dead), who would you spend it with and what would you do?
I’d love to meet my grandparents. I’d also love to hang out with Anne Boleyn, Sylvia Plath and Virginia Woolf.

5: Name a LEAST favorite of each: food, drink, color.
Olives, gin, anything fluorescent.

6: What do you spend most of your money on?
Books and coffee.

7: What kind of underwear do you prefer wearing?
Really big ones, that cover everything but are lace so you can kind of see through them. And there has to be enough to grab hold of.

8: Name a LEAST favorite of each: book, movie, tv show.
Atomised, Sweet Home Alabama, Gavin and Stacey.

9: If you were sat on a plane beside your favorite celebrity, what would you do?
Probably freak out and hide in the toilet for the rest of the journey.

10: What is the strangest thing you have in your room? (You are not allowed to explain why you own it.)
I don’t have my own room :-(

11: What is a weird habit you have, or people have told you have. (Weird, not bad. No nail biting or any of that nonsense.)
I have to rock myself to get to sleep, which can look a bit odd from outside the covers.

12: What would you consider to be the biggest insult to yourself?
If people thought I was a free loader and hadn’t worked at all for what I had achieved/got.

13: What are five things you absolutely have to have in your dream house?
A really big bed with lots of blankets, a vegetable patch, a library, stairs leading to a secret room and someone to share it with.

14: If you could be reincarnated as any animal, which would you chose and why?
I really would like to be a duck, a Mallard in particular.

15: Which band (current or past) would you want to go on tour* with? (*Travel with, not peform with.)
Babes in Toyland seem like they would be pretty rad to tour with.

16: Name a favorite of each: band, album, song.
Desperate Bicycles, Live Through This, Gimme Danger

17: Why is your favorite band your favorite?
Cos they did punk rock in a suit.

18: How many concerts have you attended? Which was your favorite? Least favorite? If none, who do you want to see live the most?
Lost count. Favourites have to be Courtney Love, Patti Smith, Gossip, My Bloody Valentine, Somic Youth, Nick Cave, Eighties Matchbox, MEN and all the bands my friends have been in. Least favourite…hmmm, all the bands in the Ladyfest Ten battle of the bands.

19: What is one of your favorite song lyrics? (Who is it by?)
O Ah hear her walkin’
Walkin’ barefoot cross the floor-boards
All thru this lonesome night
Ah hear her crying too.
Hot-tears come splashin on down
Leaking thru the cracks,
Down upon my face, Ah catch’em in my mouth!
Ah catch’em in my mouth!
Ah catch’em in my mouth!
Walk’n’cry Walk’n’cry-y!!!
Nick Cave - From her to eternity

20: How did you learn of the band that is currently your favorite?
I’m really into Desperate Bicycles and my ex’s friend for back home mentioned them casually in the pub so I thought I’d check them out and now I’m obsessed.

21: Which member from which band would you most want to lather in nutella?
Guy McKnight. Phew.
